welcome to whewell biosciences
William Whewell, an early to mid-18th century English scientist and philospher, was a generalist of the highest accomplishment. An acknowledged expert and published author in everything from poetry, philsophy, and theology to tidal research, astronomy, economics, and physics, it is fitting that the term "consilience" was first coined by him.
In 1840, Whewell wrote that "The Consilience of Inductions takes place when an Induction, obtained from one class of facts, coincides with an Induction obtained from another different class. Thus Consilience is a test of the truth of the Theory in which it occurs."
The modern "trend" towards the synthesis of diverse fields of science under rubrics such as General Systems Theory or Systems Biology in fact stem back to thought-leaders such as Whewell and many others before. However, despite the rich history and modern reincarnation, the concept has largely failed to make waves or precipitate change in pharmaceutical research and development.
Whewell Biosciences, on the other hand, is founded on the critical importance of establishing and understanding the linkages between various speciality fields within biology, medicine, and other sciences. This foundation is reflected in our founders' diverse experience in these fields, as well as the company's conscious effort to "close the loop" in drug development by creating a contiguous, inclusive, and cohesive process; one that utilizes all available interconnections and fields of science rather than excluding itself to an overly narrow and precarious path.
